In 33 AD the Savior of ALL who believe in Him, the man Jesus Christ was killed and crucified for envy, greed, and power. Those that ran the affairs of the Temple, the religious Pharisee and others were losing their grasp on the masses. Years after the death of Jesus Christ, Peter and the disciples are preaching in Acts...they are endued with power to manifest the Spirit to Israel through physical signs and wonders...they begin preaching solely to reconcile Israel back to God, (Acts 2-11) and through Paul and his revelations (Acts 9), they end Acts preaching of the gospel of the grace of God for all who will believe.

A False Balance and a Wrong Focus
>> Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Do we even consider our actions? Do we examine our zeal for God? Do we have a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. We know that a false balance is an abomination. Preachers hit sodomy and the homosexual movement with both barrels, but we never consider other abominable sins.
We know we were sinners. Do we now hide the fact that we are still men of flesh. There is none righteous. It’s only his righteousness. All of it. You don’t get credit for any of it. It’s Christ in you the hope of Glory. We pick on one or two sins that God calls abominable, and ignore the rest?

Charity, A More Excellent Way - Part 3

Ever follow that which is good, Paul said. You see this reoccurring theme show up in every Pauline epistle. You see many passages on simply being “good”, "decent", "full of charity". Nothing deep and nothing mystical. Nothing elusive to man. You see this same theme of thought and action in our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the essence of Him. It is how we are to shine. Good works, and loving others. Helping others. Humble and giving. Forgiving and patient with saints and sinners. Nothing profound. Being “decent, gentle, hospitable, giving, full of love, charity, encouraging, giving of your self, blameless, a living sacrifice, providing all things honest", and so on.
Romans 12:8 ~ Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
2 Corinthians 11:3 ~ But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

1 Timothy 1:3 ~ As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
Why would Bible believing preachers and men not recognize a overwhelming theme in the New Testament? We are the ones obligated to give out pure truth. It's the end of the commandment. It is a New Testament command if I ever saw one. Jesus, Paul, John, and Peter all spoke of it. You can have the truth. You can be bold with the truth. You can preach hard with the truth. But you will be doing it in the flesh if you don't have charity in your heart. Many churches rain down law and letter as if they were actually under it still. We know the law is good, admonishing, and exemplary. However it was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. When we step outside of our dispensation to preach for profit, popularity, or pride, our conduct is more complicit with the Old Testament. This unbalanced spirit has always reminded me of Paul in Galatians 4 and 6 dealing with men and keeping others in some sort of spiritual bondage.

Proverbs 8:6 - Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
Proverbs 17:7 - Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
Proverbs 17:27 - He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
Proverbs 22:20 - Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge.
When one is speaking of a excellent thing, such as the gospel of the grace of God, we should always strive to get men to have understanding in the truth we are speaking. Our intentions should be to give out the knowledge we have on the matter while not boasting of this knowledge.

An addendum to "Why?"
>> Friday, April 9, 2010
Much of what you will see posted here has been a culmination of many separate Bible studies that were researched and written prior to the development of this blog, some of which were done years ago, and some more recently.
The core question that I kept asking myself is, "Has our current church foundation been laid on other well-intended affairs that have been practiced for the last 150 years in physical church buildings?" Have we been led down wrong paths of men even with the right intentions?
The theme that will be primarily discussed here are the traditions and codes of conduct that are being practiced in our churches that do not represent the New Testament, Jesus Christ or His gospel of grace clearly. This conduct and certain traditional observations often go beyond the intended effect and in the end reproach Him, the gospel, and even His Book. A person can deceptively claim to represent a revered Book, while misrepresenting Jesus Christ and His New Testament.

"Join or Die"

Among some, the proceeding topics covered here will be heavily scrutinized, criticized and shrugged off as just another apostate way of thinking, as the ramblings of yet another complacent, compromising, Christian who does this or that. Many things posted here will in all likelihood be categorized by some as another trait of “lukewarmness” or passive Christianity in the “Church”, when it is neither.
Evidence with faith is a wonderful combination. In a court of law, both sides must present as evidence what they believe to be a “burden of proof”, to prove their case. To the Christian, however, it is not as simple. We have people on both sides of a matter who consider themselves to be true believers in the word of God, who are both using the same A.V. 1611 King James Bible to try to prove opposite points. If only we had the “luxury” of being bound by a court of law to gather and reason to see what the truth actually is!

Why?
>> Friday, April 2, 2010
By way of introduction, neither this first post, any post to come, nor this blog in general, is in any way a blanket rebuke toward every Independent Baptist or true Christians. I am fully aware that there are churches who do not mirror the traits of the specific Independent Baptist mentality that I may refer to in this blog to show a stark contrast to Biblical Christianity. I am also fully aware that there are churches, houses, and individuals who are of the right heart, pressing toward the mark in Christ Jesus, striving to live holy, righteously and Godly in this present world. It is only meant to be plain or short only where it is applicable, if the shoe fits!
This will not be your typical blast against the “house of God” singling out the “cold”, inactive, compromising Christians within the Independent ranks. The reason is not for coldness, compromising, or complacency in the church (although there is much), because the people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because of the lukewarmness of the Christian, or because of the overall apostasy of the body of Christ. We were told these things would come to pass, so we expect this behavior. My reason for writing is actually opposite of all of the above reasons. Could it be that our love of truth and the fact that we hold it in our hands has given us such a zeal for God that turns out to be damaging? “Knowledge puffeth up” may be the very root problem of many deceitful works we now see prevalent in our Baptist churches. The problem is simply our prideful mindset, or perhaps our deceitful traditions which produce questionable works. We know the A.V. 1611 to be God's Word, and we know all about why it is His Word.
The modernistic movement has not corrupted the church or the gospel any worse than we have through our own traditions. In fact, we as Independent Baptists have adopted many modernistic traits. The modernists are bringing newness in the way of liberality, Pacifism, Christian Psychology, and worldly worship with improper music tending to our emotional strings, while we are falling into modernism by adopting modernistic traditions of ages past and traditions of men. We hold to our own traditions much like other denominations hold to theirs.
We alone have made the Independent churches what they are, and now the change is done. It is what it is. It is us. We are apostate. We are just another part of the Laodicean church age like the rest of 'em. We are in the last days, not to sound like a prophet of doom and gloom as seen in Hollywood. But we have the spirit of truth and error, the spirit of discernment. We know exactly where we are as it pertains to history and the ages seen in Revelation 1-3. We are a part of the Laodicean church, whether we like it or not. But we have to remember that we are also members of His body!
Our Independent title means absolutely nothing now. We have made the church and the body into what it is today. Saved and lost men alike in this world, with our hands, our pride, and our glory, have changed His words. We can calculate and slice the word of God to fit any mode of service we want. We can shoot down any cult member or false religion. We have become masters at persuading our flocks by using the Word. We know how to make it right for us instead of rightly dividing. The light of the glorious gospel of Christ is no longer visible to many sinners, but only another form of religious service and worship. We are no longer a lighthouse standing fast in the storm, shining through the darkness of the world, but a watchtower, which have no light in them, holding armed watchmen sighting down the next enemy to notch in the stock of our M1. (image above, WWII watchtowers of the coast of Delaware)
I feel the need to strongly emphasize that I am not a Calvinist, Amish, Plymouth Brethren, Lollard, “Hyper”, Primitive, Independent, Freewill, Hardshell, or Southern Baptist. I am most certainly not an AnaBaptist or of the Waldensian line.
I do consider myself to be, at the core and based on certain distinctives and only based on those distinctives, a Baptist. I do not believe it necessary to join a local assembly by way of membership, a fact which I will discuss later. Say what you will, this stance is against no scripture. We are members of HIS body. I am a Christian. These statements have nothing to do with fellowshipping, assembling with believers, and unashamedly testifying of Christ, which I still maintain and practice.
My intentions for writing and for the Christian reading these things are to build up, help, edify, and exhort, by way of examination and consideration, striving to provide all things honest, and in all things, shewing thyself a pattern of good works, in doctrine, shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity. When attempting to examine, edify, or exhort the believer with “sound doctrine”, the very effect of this practice will expose heresy and false doctrine. This work of the Holy Spirit, in exposing false doctrine or false gospels with the scriptures, will in turn manifest the workers of such heresy and doctrine.
I thought it fitting for the first post in a forum such as this to also say that, though I fervently and wholeheartedly believe in these things having to do with love and charity in the Christians' conversation of life among the brethren, and all men, saved or lost, I also firmly believe in preaching straight and hard to convince and persuade sinners and saints. We are to preach the offence of Christ, without giving offence. This is clearly a biblical practice as we will see in coming posts. He is the offence, He is the stone of stumbling.
I am not opposed to powerful preaching nor am I opposed to truth being proclaimed. But we have been given guidance. We were not left to our own minds to know the manners in which the gospel is to be preached unto all men. I am not opposed to the furtherance of the gospel of the grace of God. I believe preaching the Word is a way God gave us to proclaim His gospel and ways for those who desire to know. I am most assuredly not opposed to being an effective, vocal witness for God to lead people to God. He that winneth souls is wise! Any Christian should be unashamed in testifying of their salvation and their Savior.
What I am absolutely against is the blatant disregard of decency and the intolerance showcased triumphantly by "mean men" in pulpits and otherwise. I am against pastors and preachers who protect their own brothers of the sword in other pulpits, while they destroy the masses or multitudes that are underneath the sound of their voice. I am against pastors and preachers who make the gospel of Christ with charge and rob the sheep for their own works, who labor in vain, who take pleasure in proclaiming the God of the Bible and His laws, instead of Jesus Christ and His principles, methods, and commands of the New Testament. These are men who are destitute of truth, use the Bible to build their kingdoms and to set themselves up in a position of preeminence, who look for occasion of the flesh to create strife and contention to be seen of men. Some Independent preachers dangerously pervert the gospel of Christ into the gospel of the Kingdom with their misappropriated preaching and scripture references, further reproaching His Word and His name. Instructions were directly given to Paul for the New Testament Christian, including commands, doctrines, ways, and manners about which Paul was very specific and which matched the manner of our Lord Jesus Christ when it came to giving out the Word of God, the way of God, and the gospel of God. This is the way in which we should be walking. We must stop accepting references, but demand context.
Through these studies and examinations into our traditional ways, and through the scriptures and their inspiration, my hope is that the Christian gains encouragement, for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, for all these things are profitable with all longsuffering and doctrine, for the perfecting of the saints.
We need clear definitions of terms in our day. What is ministry? What is sound doctrine? What is sanctification? What is faith? What is liberty? What is the gospel? What is our conversation? What practices have been twisted and distorted to lead men into a captivity of religion, preaching for doubt and with doubt, persuading in fear not in faith, and going about to scorn, not to correct? We should strive in these last days of the Laodicean age to be more of a Christian, and less of an Independent Baptist. Not to separate ourselves more, but to lead men to the gospel of the grace of God, the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection, according to the scriptures. We are Christians. We are ambassadors.
